ArtinSoft's technology, Freedom® |
|
|
ArtinSoft's technology, Freedom®, has enabled the development of different Microsoft conversion tools such as the "Upgrade Wizard". This tool, is used to move applications from Visual Basic® 6.0 to .NET and is embedded in the Visual Studio® .NET development environment.
ArtinSoft - Microsoft's preferred provider of upgrade services to .NET - as part of its .NET solutions includes migrations from Visual Basic 3 to .NET. You can migrate your applications to a more efficient and multiplatform technology saving money and improving your business.
This program is divided into three options: "VB.NET Ready"™, "VB.NET Set"™ and "VB.NET Go"™. Our "VB.NET Go" package is also available to upgrade applications written in Microsoft® Visual Basic® 3.0 to Visual Basic .NET.
|
|
VB.NET Ready includes a three-day customized hands-on training to upgrade Microsoft® Visual Basic® applications to .NET minimizing your learning curve. And a two-day diagnose for your specific migration project.
VB.NET Set includes one month of on-site consultancy during which one of ArtinSoft's senior upgrade engineers will migrate the first 20,000 lines of code of an application chosen by the client from Visual Basic 6.0 ® to .NET and will leave a complete plan to finish the migration.
VB.NET Go is a turnkey solution. Customers have two choices with "VB.NET Go": receive a fully migrated application from Visual Basic 6 to .NET, or else, receive project management and technical support from Artinsoft until the application is fully migrated.new
VB.NET
Go is available for Visual Basic 3 to .NET to update your application from an obsolete technology with many limitations to a technology that will allow you to increase the interoperability of your applications, enable it to be accessed on any platform and easily integrated with others, using XML and web services.

How It Works
Current Application: To have a thorough analysis of the application, our consultants use the Code Analyzer to analyze the application. The analysis then continues with an evaluation of our clients' needs together with their current application, and determines: first, the estimated cost and time of the total project and second, the different phases that the process has to go through in order to reach the maximum utilization state of .NET environment.
In some cases, the application goes through a "preliminary" migration. This allows the consultants to "tweak" the application so that it migrates with ease and few errors.
Automatic Migration: The use of the conversion tool, the Upgrade Wizard, is the second step in the process
Migration Application: Once the previous stage is complete, the code with no correspondence on .NET has to be rewritten in order to reach "Functional Equivalence. Functional Equivalence means that the recently migrated application now has the same functionality as the original application, but with the added advantage of being on .NET.
Customized Evolution: In the second to last stage, the converted application is tested against the Test Cases provided by the customer to evaluate functionality of the new application in comparison with the original one. This phase assures our client that the new application is fully functional under the new platform.
Maximum Benefit: The last stage depends on the clients' needs and consists of a re-architecture of the application to take advantage of the features of the new technology. At this time, the application can reap the benefits of the new platform and reach the maximum utilization state of .NET environment, such as being web enabled (using WinFormsToWeb), switching to ADO.NET or utilizing XML.
Benefits of upgrading your application
There are basically two types of benefits that you will be able to reap when you decide to upgrade your application:

Fully
legible, maintainable, refined source code (even
comments recovered)
|
Minimal
organizational disruption
